Comments
When shipmates leave their remarks in the Captain’s Log, we collect the details entered in the comment form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser information, to help keep the scallywags and spam pirates at bay.
An anonymized code forged from your email address (known among the crew as a “hash”) may be sent to the Gravatar service to see if ye sail under their colors. Their privacy policy can be found here: https://automattic.com/privacy/
Once your comment has been approved by the crew, your profile image may be displayed publicly alongside your words for all aboard to see.
Media
Should ye choose to upload images to this vessel, be warned: it’s wise to strip away any hidden map markings (known to landlubbers as EXIF GPS data) before hoisting them aboard.
Any soul visiting these shores may download your images and, with the right tools, uncover those secret coordinates. Best not to chart your home port for the whole world to see.
Cookies
If ye leave a comment in the Captain’s Log, ye may choose to stash your name, email address, and website in cookies. These little provisions are kept for your convenience, so ye won’t have to scribble them down again the next time ye return to leave word. These cookies will remain in the galley for one full year.
Should ye visit our login port, we’ll set a temporary cookie to test whether your browser accepts such provisions. This cookie carries no personal cargo and is tossed overboard once ye close your browser.
When ye log in, we’ll set a few more cookies to remember your credentials and your preferred deck arrangements (screen display settings). Login cookies remain for two days, while display preference cookies stay aboard for one year. If ye check the “Remember Me” box, your login pass will remain valid for two weeks. Should ye log out, those login cookies will be cast into the sea.
If ye edit or publish an article in the Captain’s Log, another cookie will be stored in your browser. This one carries no personal treasure, only the post ID of the article ye just worked on, and it vanishes after one day.

Articles and tales posted on this vessel may contain embedded cargo from other ports—such as videos, images, articles, and other curiosities. These embedded treasures behave just as if ye had sailed directly to those foreign shores yourself.
Be advised: those outside ports may gather information about ye, stash cookies in your browser, send along third-party trackers, and keep watch on how ye interact with their content. Who we share your data with
Should ye request a password reset to regain access to your quarters aboard this vessel, your IP address will be included in the message sent to ye. This helps the crew verify the request and keep mutineers from claiming another sailor’s account.
How long we retain your data
If ye leave a comment in the Captain’s Log, that comment and its accompanying details shall be kept aboard indefinitely. This allows the crew to recognize returning shipmates and approve follow-up remarks automatically, sparing them the delay of waiting in the harbor for moderation.
For those who choose to sign on as registered crew aboard this vessel (if any), we also store the personal information provided in their crew profile. All registered mates may view, edit, or cast overboard most of their personal information at any time—though their chosen ship’s name (username) must remain as first entered.
The ship’s officers and administrators may also view and adjust this information as needed to keep the vessel running true.
What rights you have over your data
If ye hold an account aboard this vessel, or have left your mark in the Captain’s Log, ye may request a copy of the personal information we keep in our ship’s records, including any details ye have shared with the crew.
Should ye wish to have your personal records struck from the ledger, ye may also request that we erase the data we hold about ye.
Do note, however, that some records must remain in the ship’s hold for administrative duties, legal obligations, or the security of the crew and vessel. Such records cannot be cast overboard until the law of the sea permits it.
Where your data is sent
Comments left by visiting shipmates may be inspected by an automated anti-spam lookout service, ever vigilant for scallywags, mutineers, and unwanted bilge cluttering the Captain’s Log.
